You may already know that Philip Morris International produces and markets some of the world's most popular cigarettes, including the world's best-selling brand. What you may not know is that one of our principal goals is to be a socially responsible company, both at a local and global level.
But can a tobacco company really be a "good corporate citizen"?
We recognize that we manufacture and market a product that is addictive and causes serious diseases, and that there is intense scrutiny of what we do and of the way we do it. But that doesn't mean that we can't be a good corporate citizen. In fact, we aim to be the most responsible corporate citizen. "Can a tobacco company be a good corporate citizen? We think so. It's what our employees expect from us."
What we are doing to achieve this goal? You'll find information on this site about our efforts towards protecting the environment, preventing youth smoking, supporting the arts, and tackling social issues such as domestic violence and hunger.
This commitment to corporate responsibility isn't intended to distract from the fact that we're a tobacco company. Rather, it's what our employees, shareholders, regulators, customers and society at large expect from us - particularly from a tobacco company. And it follows logically from our core values that we:
listen to society's concerns about our products, seek common ground with our critics and implement real solutions |
acknowledge and embrace our role as a responsible citizen and an active member of the community |
are open and transparent with our stakeholders and society as a whole |
act with integrity, respect, trust and collaborative spirit |
follow the spirit and the letter of the laws, regulations and policies governing our business |
These values guide not only the day-to-day operations of our company, but also the way we do business and interact with the world outside our offices, both locally and globally.
