Supporting effective legislation

Regulation is important in any industry; but for a tobacco company regulation is especially important. It provides stability and predictability for business and establishes a level playing field. That's why we support strong and effective regulation for both our products and our industry, and we are committed to working with governments and the public health community towards that goal.

On public health, we're determined to be open about the health effects of smoking, and we're working to address society's concerns about our products.

On youth smoking, we support worldwide minimum age laws and back youth smoking prevention programmes across the globe, including preventing kids from getting access to cigarettes and education programmes developed by youth experts.

We maintain high standards of safety wherever we operate. In addition, we continually monitor and assess the production practices in our factories - and in those of our partners - to identify and share possible improvements.

"We're working with governments and the public health community to help create strong and effective tobacco regulation."

Even Hurwitz, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs

On the environment, we already take measures on waste, recycling and the protection of resources around the world. We have also introduced a set of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) guidelines to ensure that our suppliers of tobacco leaf work towards the same goals.

Like any business - and perhaps more so - the tobacco industry needs regulation. We are working with public health organizations and governments around the world to build a stable regulatory environment for our industry.
