You may be familiar with our world-renowned brands but know little about the company behind them.
Philip Morris International is one of the world's leading tobacco companies. We currently hold a 15.6% share of the international cigarette market and employ more than 75,000 people worldwide. Our brands are made in more than 58 factories around the world and sold in approximately 160 countries.
Like any successful business, we take pride in our achievements. But our products cause serious diseases, and we do want to talk about the issues that surround our products. In fact, you will find that we've devoted much of this site to topics such as quitting, the health effects of smoking, secondhand smoke, and youth smoking prevention.
Why? We're doing it because, apart from being the right thing to do, talking about these issues makes sound commercial sense. "Think about it: why would one of the most successful tobacco companies in the world go to this much effort to publicize the dangers of smoking?"
André Calantzopoulos, Chief Operating Officer
Our goal, to quote our mission statement, is "to offer the best smoking experience to every adult smoker in the world, today and tomorrow". We know that we've some way to go before we've achieved this goal. But we also know that long-term financial success, especially for a tobacco company, calls for more than business strategies and their execution.
We must listen to society's concerns, embrace our role as a responsible company, be open and transparent, and act with integrity, respect, trust and collaborative spirit. Society expects us to present our views on the health effects of smoking and on other important issues around our products. And that's precisely what we aim to do.
